HOW TO SPEED UP WINDOWS 10

My top tip for speeding up your Windows 10 computer.

If your computer seems to be running slow these days it could be because the Win10 operating system has opened a few "Ports" in your firewall to allow for their proprietary software programs to have access through a particular "port address" on your router.

One program could be called Xbox?? (there are many of the Xbox programs) and unless you are a gamer, and want to connect with others for group play, or doing screen capture, you probably don't need a port open for this.

Some you may need like "File and Printer Sharing" and "Network Discovery" if you are on a network and sharing files etc. Once you are familiar with this option from "Control Panel" you will find out which ones you need to keep open.

Go to Control Panel

Choose System and Security

Then Windows Defender Firewall

Next click on "Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall". Once you are in this screen, have a look at all the different apps and features that are allowed or not allowed through your firewall.

Any option with a check mark beside it is allowed through your firewall. The more options that are checked, the slower your connection to the internet is.

Once you decide on the ones you want to keep and the ones you want to deny access, click on the "Change Settings" button. Then uncheck the ones (boxes on the far left) you know you don't need right now. Don't forget to  click on the "OK" button at the bottom of the screen to save your changes. Go back into your browser and see if this speeds things up.

You may have to do this each time your computer restarts as the Windows 10 OS will open up new ports each time there is a reboot. Check your firewall settings anytime your computer seems to lag.
